Late 2020 I met Kyle Watt through a mutual friend and became obsessed with his stylistic approach to playing bass guitar. It set the course for new ideas and ways to creatively communicate an entirely new voice of the instrument. Equipped with his headless Ibanez, and a handful of his demoes, we worked over the course of a couple years on music that he would release under the name Ibbi. I helped with editing, arrangement, mixing, as well as any other sound design elements that would lend themselves to the music. To say the work was challenging is a bit of an understatement but it was some of the most fulfilling and rewarding work I carried through to it's finalization. The work I did with Ibbi not only taught me some crucial tips and tricks in the studio but also showed me that a great musician makes all the difference when it comes to the final result. I've known Gavin for quite sometime and was really impressed when I heard what he was doing with his previous duo. A wordsmith, a lyrical giant, an outspoken poet are a few ways to describe this charismatic MC killing it behind the mic and pushing out a really positive message with his music. We connected in the studio early 2021 and wrote a few quick productions together only to realize the magic and chemistry in the creative space was huge for us. The collaborative process for us was seamless and fluent as we wrote a bit of a back catalog to pull from for the main opening chapter of his music career. Later in 2024 we decided to piece together and polish his first album "tbD". I helped with the mixing and mastering as well as any edits and some of the production. He brought a lot of the content of the album to my studio and together we refined the album as a whole. Working with Gavin has helped me explore all creative possibilities in the studio and leave no stone unturned when it comes to the smaller details in anything. Check out the incredible work he has done below.
